Projector Placement for Angular-Reflective Screen

Notice to Installer:

Please use the following installation instructions to obtain superior optical performance from the ALR (Ambient Light Rejecting) Screen.

  • Angular-Reflective material is not compatible with ultra/short-throw projectors
  • Minimum lens throw ratio 1.5x image width
  • Ambient light must not come from the same direction as the projector

Since angular-reflective means that the projected image will reflect at the mirror-opposite angle, it is important to position the projector so that the viewer will get the best possible image.

  • Step 1: Establish the general “eye level” of the viewers
  • Step 2: Set the appropriate projection level
  • Step 3: Adjust the screen height level and projection angle

Input Angle (A) = Output Angle (B) aligns with the viewer’s angle

Reviews

"I used this screen for a Living Room Based Home Theater. I have limited light control and have a lot of ambient light during the day. The screen works great for day and night with a fairly low lumen projector 1700 lumens. Very Easy to mount and install. Black Felt border works great for bleed over from projector. Great image. The easy install made it easy to mount and the black border helps hide any over screen projections."

FAQ's

Q: Can I buy a small screen material sample?

A: Yes, you can buy a screen material sample by clicking on the link below.

Q: How do I properly remove dry-erase markings from my Elite Whiteboard Projection Screen?
A:
Before using the dry-erase function of your whiteboard screen, please make note of the following instructions to properly maintain and clean your dry-erase surface projection screen. (These Whiteboard cleaning tips are just as relevant with any dry-erase writing surface as they are with our Whiteboard-Projection Screens.)

  1. Only use a high density foam eraser when removing dry-erase markings from the Whiteboard screen.
  2. Do not use abrasive erasers as these may scratch the surface of the screen.
  3. Never spray the whiteboard cleaner solution onto the surface while marker writing is present and then attempt to use a high density foam eraser to remove. This will only smear the dry-erase marker ink making the surface more difficult to clean and will likely ruin the foam eraser.
  4. If there are any dry-erase markings left behind even after attempting to remove them using our high density erasers, spray our whiteboard cleaning solution directly onto the screen surface and use only a soft microfiber cloth to wipe-down and clean the area.

Q: What type of dry-erase markers do you recommend using on my Elite Screens whiteboard screen product?
A:
Elite Screens recommends using our dy-erase markers.  Additional markers can be purchased in a set, part number ZER3. Any other regular low-odor dry-erase markers brands such as EXPO are also ok to use.

Q: Is the ALR WhiteBoardScreen Series with StarBright 4 material suitable for a short-throw projector or a standard throw projector?
A:
The ALR WhiteBoardScreen Series only works with standard throw projectors due to the angular reflective surface. When placed at the angle suggested in the User Guide (angles for desktop projector mode or overhead projector mode are listed in the User Guide), the StarBright 4 provides a high 4.0 gain by rejecting ambient light at the projection surface to boost the overall picture quality. For short-throw projectors, Elite Screens WhiteBoardScreen Universal is the solution. Elite’s WhiteBoardScreen Universal Series with VersaWhite material is designed to work with both short-throw and standard throw projectors.

Q: I have an Ambient Light Rejecting screen but it does not seem to work. There are windows behind my projector and the picture is washed out; what can be done?
A: *Disclaimer:
As great as ambient light rejecting screen technologies are, there are still certain laws of physics that define what should and should not be done with a specialty material such as this.

Main Answer:  Ambient Light Rejecting (ALR) projector screens are specially formatted to reject the majority of off-axis lighting from the top, bottom, and side angles.
However if a strong light source is hitting the ALR material at roughly the same angle as the projector does, it will wash out the image.
There is an easy solution.  I strongly recommend light blocking curtains or blackout shades to shield your room and to rely on the interior lighting that ALR screens work with.
