How do I wire my 12-volt trigger?

Elite Screens' Blog Team

This discussion nicely covers the basics of wiring a 12-volt trigger between your projector and screen. The 12-volt trigger coordinates the electric projection screen’s drop and rise with the projector’s power cycle. Turn on the projector and the screen drops down into the viewing position. Turn off the projector and the screen rises back up into its casing.

[17:07]        Rick: Hello, how may I help you.

[17:07] Customer: Hi Rick

[17:08] Customer: I check my 12V trigger cable and the ends are orange and green, which is which?

[17:08]        Rick: Green is the ground and orange is the positive.

[17:08] Customer: How do I know which color goes to what on the mono cable?

[17:08] Customer: So red goes to the orange connection?

[17:08] Customer: Green goes to white connection?

[17:08]        Rick: Yes, you are correct on the wiring. Red matches the orange connection and green matches the white connection.

[17:08]        Rick: You can also use a 9v battery to test as well.

[17:09] Customer: Ok and just to confirm you say I need a mono cable that has a single ring at the end?

[17:10]        Rick: In case this doesn't work just reverse the polarities. Yes, the mono will only have 2 wires

[17:10] Customer: Ok. Do you have a wiring color chart for me if I have to splice connections?

[17:11]         Rick: You can splice the CAT 5 wire.  Here is the color code chart.

[17:11]         Rick:

[17:11] Customer: ok great

[17:12]        Rick: Also, you may use speaker wire or phone wire to connect between the screen and the projector.

[17:13] Customer: How would that connect to my 12V output projector

[17:14] Customer: I have an Optoma HD142X

[17:19]        Rick: You will have the 3.5 mm mono cable on the projector and will splice your CAT5, speaker wire or phone wire to this end and you will splice the RJ45 to the other end.

[17:21] Customer: oh IC

[17:21] Customer: Ok Thanks

[17:22] Customer: What is the difference between single ring and double ring mono cable?

[17:24]        Rick: The single(mono) only has two wires (positive and negative). The audio (double ring) cable has 4 wires (two pairs each).

[17:24] Customer: ok thanks - have a great day

[17:24]        Rick: Thank you for choosing Elite Screens.
