How to order a VMAX Dual® Series

Buy VMAX Dual® Series

The VMAX Dual® Series is an electric projection screen with alternating 16:9/2.35:1 aspect ratio options. The product comes fully equipped with mounting brackets in addition to an RF and 12V trigger control kit.

The VMAX Dual® offers a professional grade surface to match the abilities of anamorphic projectors. Anamorphic is the ability for a projector to switch from one aspect ratio (screen shape) to another in accordance with the type of presentation being shown. The VMAX Dual® utilizes two independently front projection materials and is compatible with all standard throw Home Cinema projectors. Available with MaxWhite® (matte white) and AcousticPro UHD (sound transparent) front projection surfaces.

Available in the following front projection materials

"Elite Screens made the right moves, offering detailed drawings for each screen they offer"

Why did I choose Elite Screens. Elite made a very wise and intelligent business decision, the moment you locate the model and narrow your research (at their website) your instantly viewing detailed drawings with specific dimensions of each screen. There is no wasted time digging, just to find out other dealers don't offer this very helpful resource. I have a drop-in suspended ceiling and while Elite offers a true recessed screen mounting option, I found those models would either A) would deploy and hit my entertainment center, or B) if I went with the smaller version, I had to sacrifice the maximum screen size, if I didn't take a different approach. I chose model VMAX120H114C-AUHD which is a Ceiling Mount screen, it has dual screens (one for 16:9 and one for 2.35:1) and it's an Acoustic screen, so it can deploy in front of my Pioneer KURO (on the wall) and my Center Speakers. I cut the ceiling tile grid, and installed this screen, recessed and on (4) all thread 5/16" dia. rods, on a system of electrical Uni-Struts that are attached to the floor joist about the ceiling grid. That gave me a very robust hanger system, that allowed me complete height adjustment, and allowed a normal ceiling mount screen, to be fully recessed and barely visible. This approached maximized the size screen I could afford to install and not interfere with my entertainment system. Quality wise, the motors are completely silent. There was no "screen curl" that sorta had me worried, but turned out to be an non-issue. But the whole experience, the installation, the pre-planning and selection process, went off without a hitch, because of the dimensional data that Elite provided. This model screen does not have an IR Trigger connection directly on the screen. There is an IR connection on the hand held remote, and you do get a short IR cable, which you can plug into the Trigger port on the Projector. But the Default will operate the 16:9 screen only, when you initiate power ON for the Projector.

FAQ's

Q: What screens do short throw projectors work with?
A:
Elite's non-tensioned screens are great with standard throw projectors, but just like any non-tensioned projector screen, we don’t recommend using it with an ultra/short throw projector.  Non-tensioned screens are not completely flat and while it may have little, if any, perceivable effect with a standard projector’s image, it can distort ultra/short throw imagery. We recommend purchasing Elite's tab-tensioned screens utilizing the CineWhite® or CineWhite® UHD materials or any of Elite's fixed frame screens if an ultra/short throw projector is required.

Q: Can I buy a small screen material sample?
A:
Yes, you can buy a MaxWhite® screen material sample by clicking here.

Buy an AcousticPro UHD screen material sample by clicking here.

Q: I have a native 16:9 4K projector and a 2.35:1 cinemascope projection screen; so, do I need an anamorphic lens to view full size 16:9 content on that 2.35 screen?
A : Yes, if you are going for optimal performance and “no” if your projector has lens memory and you cannot reconcile with the cost of the anamorphic lens. Here is the difference for each.

Projecting onto a 2.35:1 screen (lens zooming): On a native 16:9 4K projector, lens memory is a pre-set feature that allows you to letterbox zoom and fit the 2.35:1 screen’s footprint. To many, this looks good enough. The bad news is that you are losing 25% (over 2,000,000) pixels. They are not gone; they just appear black to give the illusion of no longer being there. Because 25% of your pixels are out of the game and your projector is trying to stretch what is left to fill your screen, you lose 1/3 of your resolution and 25-30% of your brightness depending on the settings you choose.  It is also worth mentioning that when your projector blacks out 25% of your pixels, it absorbs the light energy which manifests itself as excess heat inside of your projector.  Over time, this excess heat will shorten your projector’s operational lifespan. Some projectors have lens memory so you can switch them at the click of a button but should the projector not have this capability, you’d have to perform this manually through your remote.

Projecting onto a 2.35:1 screen (Anamorphic lens):  In order to take full advantage of all of the pixels from your projector (maximize brightness and resolution) you will need an anamorphic lens and avoid the extra light from over spilling beyond the limits of your 2.35 screen. In other words, your projector needs an anamorphic lens to maximize your video performance.  A memory lens horizontally stretches your image while electronically upscaling your 16:9 projector’s vertical resolution. This means you get the 2.35:1 performance without losing brightness or resolution.  Because you are not running black content in letterbox mode for hours on end, this puts less wear and tear on your projector.

Other options, projecting 16:9 content onto a 2.35:1 Screen: You can still project a 16:9 image onto a 2.35 screen but the image will be smaller and you will have empty space on the sides.  No anamorphic lens is needed in this case but you would have to manually adjust for both aspect ratios when viewing 16:9 and 2.35:1 content.

Q: Can I use the AcousticPro UHD material in a room with ambient light?
A: The AcousticPro UHD performs at its best in a light controlled environment, not in a room that will have ambient light. The material is a fabric with a special weave pattern for projection use. It is suggested to go with our standard CineWhite® material if a matte white screen is needed. Or better yet, our very best CineGrey 3D® or CineGrey 5D® material will perform better with a higher gain and Angular-Reflective front projection with ambient light rejecting technology.

Q: How do I synchronize the ZU12V Universal 12 Volt Projector Trigger to my Elite electric screen?
A:
For the instructional guide on synchronizing the ZU12V, please click here.
To watch the instructional video, please click here.

Q: What is the power consumption and motor RPM for my Elite Electric screen?
A:  Please see the table below for your Elite electric screen's information.

Q: I know that all Elite Screens motorized screens include a built-in 5-12 volt trigger RJ45 input port, but what if my projector does not have a 5-12 volt trigger ouput port.  How can I take advantage of the automatic down/stop synchronizcation of my Elite motorized screen and my projector?
A: Elite Screens offers a wireless Universal 5-12 volt projector accessory (Part# ZU12V) for projectors that do not have a trigger output. Contact your preferred Elite Screens reseller or visit shop.elitescreens.com for information about purchasing this product.

Q: How can I extend my RJ-45 accessory such as my 5-12 v trigger, 3-way wall switch, and IR "eye" sensor?
A: You can extend the length of your cable using the ZSP-12V-50B. This 50 feet RJ-45 cable includes an extender plug coupler to allow you to join connections to your existing accessory.

Q: What preventative maintenance does Elite Screens recommend for electric screens?
A: Elite strongly recommends using either a standard surge protector or a power conditioner on all electric projection screens.

Q: What is the power cable length of the VMAX Dual® Series Electric Screen?
A:
The power cable length for all VMAX Dual® Series models is approximately 70.8" (1.8M). Note: This measurement is accurate for USA only, other countries may be equipped with different lengths for each model.
