Recently, Elite received an order for an Electric projection screen that has ambient light rejecting (ALR) capabilities to be used in an urban youth mentorship facility. The choice was for a Starling Tab-Tension 2 CineGrey 5D in a 92” diagonal size and a 16:9 aspect ratio (STT92UHD5-E12). The name of the facility is the Safe Place for Youth in Venice California. “SPY” as it’s affectionately known, is a drop-in center offering supportive services to homeless youth. Essentially, there’s the bleak existence of life on the streets or a safe haven, hope, and a fighting chance to claim a good life through benevolent organizations such as this.
When our sales manager got wind of the story and the countless young lives that have been positively guided by Safe Place for Youth, she saw a great story here that needed to be shared. In the end we asked SPY if they would be willing to give a testimony about what they do and how our screen helps them accomplish that. They agreed so long as our team helped their volunteers with the installation.
The new screen from Elite (STT92UHD5-E12) has been put to use in their education and employment room. This environment is faced by large panel windows that admit a considerable amount of natural lighting. Whereas a white screen would have sufficed at night, an ALR screen was essential due to SPY operating primarily at daytime hours.
One of the youth members spoke in strong favor of the screen. “The Screen is awesome. When they do graphic design, it’s really useful because you can blow up whatever you are working on to be a lot bigger so it’s really clear and you can get more of a feel for what you are creating.”
Cody Metzger, Development Officer of the facility commended the screen for it’s larger-than-life performance as well. “So, the screen is ambient light rejecting and that’s really helpful because the education and employment room faces the street and there’s a big window” (and lot of outdoor light comes in). Mel Kim, the Education and Employment Program Manager had this to say. “So, this is actually amazing because projecting in here in this room (with all the ambient light) is a challenge, so having a screen that can help us with those problems really supports our presentation.” Cody Metzger continued by expanding on the screen’s perks from having remotes included to high resolution, color that pops, and what a big upgrade it has been from projecting on the white wall.
Good stewardship is the keystone in building a better society. This organization brings hope to street kids who had none. SPY, builds confidence and equips homeless youth to join society and live the dream as the next generation of self-reliant professionals instead of becoming marginalized and forgotten. Elite is proud to have its product play even a small role in the bigger picture.
About the Starling Tab-Tension 2 CineGrey 5D® Series:
The Starling Tab-Tension 2 CineGrey 5D® Series is an electric motorized retractable projector screen that uses an Ambient Light Rejecting material. The retractable feature provides flexibility to mounting the screen without dedicating its designated location to exclusively one purpose. The ambient light rejecting material is formulated to sustain excellent color reproduction and contrast for enhanced picture quality in environments with little control over room lighting. The product used in this case was a 92” (16:9) screen (STT92UHD5-E12).
